5G enabled LG Velvet heads down under this month for $899

After announcing the phone internationally in May, LG Australia has announced the LG Velvet will be arriving in Australia this month.

The 5G enabled LG Velvet will be priced at $899 when it arrives in JB Hifi, The Good Guys and online partners in the coming weeks – with LG saying stock should be in-store by July 31st. LG are also looking to carrier partnerships to be announced shortly.

The LG Velvet is a shift in focus for LG, with design taking the drivers seat as opposed to the more spec heavy releases from their competitors. From the 3D arc design which helps the front and rear flow together more easily, to the intentional styling of the ‘raindrop’ camera, a ‘design in which three rear cameras and a flash are arranged in a vertical direction as if water droplets are falling’ the phone is beautiful.

The phone may be a mid-range style phone but LG has used the 5G compatible Snapdragon 765 processor and paired it with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage which can be expanded with microSD cards. There’s a large 6.8-inch OLED display featuring prominently on the front of the phone, with a small cut-out in the centre of the display for a 16MP selfie camera.

The triple ‘raindrop’ camera array on the rear consists of a 48MP main sensor, supported by an 8MP sensor with ultra-wide lens, and a 5MP depth sensor.

The phone is a mere 6.8mm thin, but still manages to include a 4,300 mAh battery with support for fast charging as well as wireless charging. There’s also even room for a 3.5mm headphone jack!

There’s some new ‘Creator’ focused inclusions on the LG Velvet, with 4K Timelapse Control and Voice Bokeh bringing new features for videos. There’s also an ASMR mode for recording audio with dual built-in high-sensitivity microphones.

LG has said that they won’t be bringing the ‘LG dual screen’ accessory which launched with the Velvet to Australia – at least not at the moment, hopefully that changes. The LG Velvet also has stylus support, though they recommend the Wacom Bamboo stylus rather than building an ‘LG’ branded version.

The LG Velvet will be available to in Aurora White or Aurora Grey when it arrives in JB Hifi, The Good Guys and other online retailers. If you want to get your hands on one you can head to the LG website and register your interest.
