Nike release MAG shoes from Back to the Future

Even if you’re not a fan of Back to the Future, chances are you’ve seen at least one of the movies. And you’ll be familiar with the self lacing Nike sneakers Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) wore – they’re just that iconic. Decades on, Nike is set to release a replica pair, called the MAG, in seriously limited numbers. Despite the fact they don’t actually self lace (despite Nike patenting that idea a couple of years ago), you can expect the 1,500 run to sell out seriously quickly.

Available only through eBay via auction, the Nike MAG will go on sale from today until September the 18th and all proceeds will go to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research. Kudos to Sergey Brin of Google fame, who will match the auction results with a personal donation as well.

The Nike MAG shoes are virtually identical to the pair you saw Marty McFly wear, even down to the electroluminescent logo on the tongue and the LED panel on the sole. But this isn’t due to any weird technology or trickery, it’s simply a tiny internal battery hidden in the shoe that lasts five hours and can be easily recharged.

If you fancy yourself a pair of these amazing shoes, hop on to the eBay store here.
