Citroen slashes prices but does anyone care?

Citroen Australia distributor, Ateco, has revealed price slashes or new equipment levels across the range in an effort to boost sales.

Much like Renault and Peugeot, the other French manufacturer has struggled to get a good foothold in the Australian market. Seems we prefer our cars with a badge from the land of the rising sun or the country that gifted us Oktoberfest. And who can blame us? Well, not Citroen, who has decided to sweeten the deal to try to increase the love for the French.

Virtually the entire range will either get significant price reductions, increased equipment levels or both in one big hit. Which leads us to the question – do you actually want a Citroen? Well, with the C3, C4, C5, DS3 and Berlingo, it could swing either way.

The DS3 (used by Citroen in the WRC) is likely to get the most reaction. Marketed as a Mini rival, the new model will not only get a better six-speed semi-automatic ESG gearbox but and updated 70kW/135Nm 1.4-litre petrol engine as well. It will also be priced a lot more keenly, starting at $26,990. Picture above, you can option it in a range of colours, including dual-tones and the interior gets a splash of colour too.

In other range news, the sexy C5 Tourer has dropped between $10,000 and $14,000 while the small C3 will be getting additional equipment levels, including Bluetooth.

Also look out next year for the release of the DS4 and DS5 which bring the unique DS3 styling to large sized cars.
