Part-time V8 Supercar driver Allan Simonsen has smashed the V8 Supercar lap record around Mount Panorama, Bathurst… in a Ferrari 458 GT3.
The record came during the first test of the car around the Mountain in preparation for the Bathurst 12-hour in February next year. The SMH reports that he set a lap time of 2:04.9, faster than Craig Lowndes’ 2:06.8 during practice at Bathurst in 2010. The fastest lap ever set on the Mountain was Jenson Button in a McLaren Mercedes F1 car at 1:48.88.
“This car is damn fast! Given this is our first test, it’s certainly nice to break the lap record finally and we did it in style,” said driver Allan Simonsen to the SMH after setting the record.
