The V8 Supercar paddock and Australian motorsports is in mourning today with the passing of the always smiling Jason Richards, former driver for Brad Jones Racing Team BOC.
Last year in November, Richards, from New Zealand, was diagnosed with a rare form of cancer that spread aggressively. Despite making a few race appearances this year, including an inspirational second place in the V8 Supercar support race for the Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne, and a win in Adelaide in the Fujitsu V8 Series, Richards’ condition failed to improve. He passed away at 8pm last night.
The V8 Supercars website has written a touching tribute to Richards, who survived by his wife and two daughters.
Brad Jones Racing and Team BOC will have a special Jason Richards website operational: http://jasonrichards.bradjonesracing.com.au where fans can leave messages.
Fans can send email messages of support to jrtribute@v8supercars.com.au
