Ford EcoSport mini SUV will land in Australia

Ford has confirmed its all-new EcoSport mini soft-roader will be heading to Australia. The tiny SUV will be based on the Ford Fiesta platform and will offer economical driving with space in the back for adult passengers.

The EcoSport mini SUV will be built in India and aims to hit the $25,000 price tag or there abouts when it makes its Aussie debut. With the amount of small soft roaders (think the Volkswagen Tiguan, Nissan Dualis, Skoda Yeti, Suzuki SX4) already in the market, it would take a brave man to question Ford’s timing. But Ford aim to make the small SUV even smaller with the EcoSport.

At just four meters long, it really will be a light-weight amongst its competition. This is backed up by the base power option which will be a one litre, three-cylinder turbo engine said to give out around 90kW of power. Impressive for such a small and economical engine but far from what an SUV of old would have been paired with. If it sounds a bit too soft for you, Ford is likely to also offer it with more powerful 1.5 litre options, both petrol and turbo diesel. All the models will be front-wheel drive although there are rumours of an all wheel drive option.

It passes the looks test quite comfortable. Here’s hoping the drive will match.
