Australian Supercross legend Chad Reed ruled out for the season (includes video)

Aussie Chad Reed, multiple Supercross champion and one of the highest earning Australian sports stars, has been ruled out of the 2012 season after a horror smash in the AMA Supercross in Dallas, Texas, last weekend.Reed, who was challenging for the lead on his own-run Honda Supercross bike stacked in a big way after mistiming a jump. He was taken to hospital where it was revealed he had torn his anterior cruciate ligament, broken his tibia and fibula, sustained two broken ribs and a broken vertebra. Doctors are still waiting for swelling to go down before they operate on Reed.

The Dallas round was the seventh in the season while Reed was sitting second in the championship. He told the SMH, “To say I am hurting right now would be a major understatement. I am just trying to figure out what hurts more, the injuries or the fact that I am going to be out for a while with knee surgery.”

He will try to return for the outdoor season but that is just based on hope at this stage.
