Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series Qualification at Cattai, NSW, this weekend

Another one of Red Bull’s extreme sports is taking place in Australia this weekend. The Hawksbury River at Cattai, north-west of Sydney, will play host to the 2012 Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series qualification round. Of the fifteen entrants, four will be chosen to take part in the 2012 championship.

If you want to get a first hand glimpse of the action, the Riverside Oaks Golf Resort is the place to be tomorrow (Saturday 4, February) between 1pm and 4pm. 15 divers from around the world will take the immense plunge from 27 metres up, reaching speeds in excess of 135kph before making contact with the murky water below. Red Bull expects at least 5,000 spectators to rock up and get some of the action, despite the rain currently in Sydney.

Admission to the qualifying round is free and boats are more than welcome. There will be an after party in true Red Bull style, but don’t bother with BYO.
