Australians to get Sky Sports commentary for F1 season 2012

Mid-way through the 2011 season the BBC decided it was no longer going to broadcast every F1 Race live, and instead inked a deal with F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone to sell the bulk of the rights to UK Pay TV operator Sky Sports. The question has been which commentary team will Aussie F1 fans get on the Channel Ten/One HD coverage?

That question was answered late yesterday when front-man for the Ten coverage Greg Rust tweeted the news that Ten would take the Sky Sports commentary for season 2012.

SKY SPORTS #F1 Team: Anthony Davidson, David Croft, Natalie Pinkham, Martin Brundle, Simon Lazenby, Georgie Thompson and Ted Kravitz

All Good news for us because the familiar voice of Martin Brundle will again be part of our F1 coverage, while David Croft brings a fresh new voice to the race commentary itself.

Croft is not unfamiliar with the sport, he’s got a great background having also been the BBC’s Radio coverage commentator for several years.

The coverage will be lacking the insights of David Coulthard and only time will tell how the commentary stacks up year on year.

The new commentary team kicks into gear for this weekend’s Australian Grand Prix, with the Ten Sport team of Greg Rust, Craig Baird and Darryl Beattie on deck with coverage on One from Midday-7pm on Friday, Midday-6pm Saturday on Ten/One and Midday-6.45pm Sunday on Ten/One.
