Greg Murphy to miss Tasmanian round of the V8 Supercar Series

Kiwi Greg Murphy, driver of the Pepsi Max Crew Holden Commodore, run by Kelly Racing, will miss the second round of the V8 Supercar Series in Tasmania at Symmons Plains this weekend. He will be replaced by David Russell. Murphy suffered a back injury in the opening Clipsal 500 round of the championship, in Adelaide. He crashed heavily with Jonothan Webb and managed to inflame and old battle wound. He told the V8 Supercars website, “After seeing my surgeon last week and then with the way my body has reacted on the weekend after not really doing anything I knew something wasn’t right.”

Murphy will be replaced by David Russell, who has driven for Kelly Racing in the endurance events of the Sandown 500 and Bathurst 1000. Russell currently races for the squads team in the second tier Dunlop Series.

For fans of “Murph”, don’t worry. He believes he will be right to race in round three, the Hamilton 400 in New Zealand.
