It seems like an age since director extraordinaire has tried his hand at a science fiction film. As the trailer for his upcoming film Prometheus shows, he hasn’t lost the touch.
Dubbed as a thematic prequel to the Alien movies and an attempt to explain the mysterious origins of the Aliens, Prometheus tells the story of a team of human scientists who travel to a distant star system in an attempt to find the origins of humanity.
While it originally began life as a defined prequel, Scott has explained that Prometheus has evolved into its own story. He told MTV in January 2011:
“While ‘Alien’ was indeed the jumping-off point for this project, out of the creative process evolved a new, grand mythology and universe in which this original story takes place,” he said. “The keen fan will recognise strands of ‘Alien’ ‘s DNA, so to speak, but the ideas tackled in this film are unique, large and provocative. I couldn’t be more pleased to have found the singular tale I’d been searching for, and finally return to this genre that’s so close to my heart.”
The film is set to hit Australian cinemas on 7th June 2012. After watching the trailer, it can’t come soon enough…
