Alan Jones’ Williams and Michael Schmacher’s Ferrari F1 cars up for sale

For most of us, the closest we’ll get to a multimillion dollar classic car auction is on a Pay TV show or via an online catalogue. And this is one of the most amazing online catalogues we’ve seen.

The RM Auctions biennial event in Monaco just happens to coincide with the F1 GP on that weekend. Conveniently, some of the biggest hitters and largest cheque-books in the motoring world will all be in the one place.

Up for auction on the day will be 396 absolutely stunning vehicles.

EFTM took a look through the glossy online pages of the RM Auctions catalog after reading about the sale of one of the F-2000 Ferrari F1 cars raced by Michael Schumacher on his way to the 2000 championship.

That vehicle is expected to fetch up to $1.1 million on the day. It was the first Ferrari F1 designed entirely in the Maranello wind tunnel facility, and was restored by the Ferrari factory in 2008.

Alongside that stunning item are some amazing classics. From what we can see the car to invest in seems to be the Ferrari Spider – we just found three examples which together could bring a total of $13.7 million to the auction on May 12. They really are classic Ferraris.

Take a scroll forward to lot 363 – “1978 WILLIAMS FW06 Formula 1 Race Car” – This car was designed for and raced by Australia’s Alan Jones in the 1978 season just two years before his World Championship with the same team. The iconic design draws you straight back to Alan Jones’ years in F1 and would be a true collectors item for any F1 fan (but in particular an Aussie F1 fan). So, who’s got the $770,000 top asking price?  Perhaps we need to pass the hat around?
