Foxtel coming to Samsung Smart TVs in July

It was one of the rumours out of the CES show in Las Vegas this year, but last night Samsung confirmed it – Foxtel is coming to Samsung’s lineup of Smart TVs later this year.

Served up over the Smart TV’s internet connection, the Foxtel content will start at under $20 a month and include dedicated sports and entertainment channel packages. Although it hasn’t been confirmed, we expect the channel lineup to be the same as what’s on offer via the Foxtel on Xbox service and Foxtel on T-Box service.

Also announced at the 2012 Samsung TV launch was the inclusion of 8 dedicated Olympic Channels available to all customers purchasing a Series 7 or Series 8 television.

With the addition of Quickflix movie content, The Wiggles, Yahoo!7 catchup and more dedicated IPTV content, there really is a content partnership battle happening in the 2012 Smart TV race. Eventually we’ll likely reach a point where most services are available on most brands of TV, but at the moment, it’s probably the second most persuasive argument each brand can advertise outside of picture quality.
