Giant super rats are invading Sydney!

Seriously. Giant rats that are immune to common rat bait and have more diseases than Lindsay Lohan has had court appearances are invading Sydney and other parts of Australia’s east coast. And there isn’t much you can do about it.

The problem is that rats have always been a problem. Ever since Australia was settled we have been trying to get rid of them with rat bait, and now they are largely immune to the common commercial rat baits in use. Even if they weren’t, they are apparently now smart enough to grab food from rat traps without getting caught or mistakenly eating the bait. The biggest issues are with sewer rats and roof rats, both of which have become a bit of a super breed, evading traps and immune to poison.

But the Daily Telegraph has reported that there is something you can do about it. Bacon, anchovies or other strong smelling food that is tied down to a trap with fuse wire, making it impossible for the rat to eat it without being caught in the trap.

So should you be worried about mass super rat infestation at your place during the year? Tele writer Neil Keene says it depends on where you live. “Increases in rat infestations have been reported in Cronulla, Brighton Le Sands, Rose Bay, Bellevue Hill, Surry Hills and Paddington,” he writes.

The Eastern suburbs has a rat infestation eh? Who would have thought that…
