Watch The Great Gatsby trailer now

One of the greatest books in history and now one of the most hotly anticipated film adaptations in recent times – the first trailer of The Great Gatsby has finally been released.

Sadly we will have to wait until February 2013 to get a glimpse of the film, but from the trailer it looks like it will be worth the wait. The novel was written by F. Scott Fitzgerald about half a year in New York during the boom time of 1922 and Prohibition – the banning of alcohol. It highlights the misadventures of the time in a city fully recovered from World War I.

The movie, directed by Baz Luhrmann, stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby, Tobey Maguire as Nick Carraway, Carey Mulligan as Daisy Buchanan and Australia’s Joel Edgerton and Isla Fisher as Tom Buchanan and Myrtle Wilson respectively. The film has been shot at Fox Studios in Sydney and is expected to pour $120 million into the state’s economy.

If you like a good adventure, a bucket-load of style and a literary classic, looks like this film could be right up your alley. Also watch out for shots of Sydney. Despite being set in New York, there will be some obvious shots of the Harbour City.
