Recompute cardboard computing is great for the environment

If you want to add a bit of hispter to your life but aren’t prepared to buy a vintage bicycle or drive a Volkswagen Beetle from the 1960s, then perhaps one of the Recompute towers will do the trick. They’re made of reinforced cardboard and look pretty damn ace.

The whole idea of Recompute is to provide a better computing experience for the environment, if not yourself. Fact of the matter is that the computers themselves aren’t particularly fast – but they will more than do the trick for all your basic office needs and some gaming to boot.

But you don’t really buy the Recompute for the specs. You buy it for the cool cardboard tower. It’s made from corrugated cardboard put together with waterproof adhesive and can withstand both liquids and heat. In fact, the cardboard itself has great ventilation so the tower doesn’t need a fan making it a lot quieter than most PCs.

While the cardboard may seem like a fire hazard, the cardboard used has been tested to withstand heat up to 200 degrees Celsius before catching fire, so you will probably fry your motherboard before the cardboard proves to be an issue.

While the design itself is rather basic, you are able to add on your own designs to personalise the tower. Check out the NYC tube map tower which would look good in any man cave or man office… if there is such thing as the latter.

Recompute computers come with a bunch of free software such as Ubuntu and Open Office but you can also upgrade to Windows 7 if you like for an additional charge. The basic specs include an AMD Vision A8 II Quad-core 2.9GHz processor with 1TB hard drive and 8GB DDR3 memory.
