40 billion apps downloaded from the Apple App Store

Apple has a knack for releasing staggering numbers to demonstrate the brute force they bring to the new mobile and tablet world. The App Store has now had over 40 billion downloads since its launch, two billion of those were in December 2012 alone.

With iPads, iPods and iPhones selling in huge numbers, it’s no surprise that the growth in download numbers is growing exponentially. In the 2012 calendar year almost half of the overall number of App Store downloads occurred, just shy of 20 billion.

Despite intense competition from Android, and the upcoming Windows Phone platform, With almost 800,000 apps to choose from Apple still has the most compelling application offerings for the smartphone or tablet buyer.

If you’ve got one of Apple’s mobile devices, have a little think and tell us how much you contributed to that massive 40 billion milestone.
