Another Dyson innovation – the hard floor cleaner replacing mops and steamers

James Dyson may have more money than sense, but when it comes to innovating in areas where no-one else dares to tread he has the market cornered. This week Dyson announced yet another cleaner for the home – the Dyson Hard. Replacing mops and steam-mops in the homes of those who can afford it.

James Dyson with the Dyson Hard

Dyson always looks at a problem and tries to solve it.  With the Dyson Hard the problem is hard floors. Yep for all your carpeted areas be they large or small.  However if you’ve got a large area of tiles or wooden floor you’re either mopping, steaming, sweeping or who knows what.

Dyson Hard

James Dyson and his team reckon mopping simply a case of moving dirty water around and leaving the floor “soiled”.  When you’re steaming you have to “wait for steam” and you’re bound to a power point.  While there are some 2-in-1 options out there they are battery-powered and don’t have anywhere near the suction that Dyson offer with their cyclonic technology.

The Dyson Hard combines a dual suction head with a wet mop holder in between.  We haven’t yet seen one in person yet, but the concept sounds ideal.

Dyson Hard

Announced globally but with no specific Australian release date we’ll have to wait for pricing information.  It’s also hard to say from the announcement just how long that “wet mop” section contains, how long they last and if they are washable and re-usable.

Dyson Hard

The overall unit looks to be essentially a Dyson Slim handheld vacuum cleaner with an all new head on it, so there is also some possibility the head itself will be available for people who already have the Slim stick vacuum.

We wait with anticipation – I certainly have enough hard floors at home to justify a better way to clean them!
