The EFTM Garage – Nissan Patrol ST-L

There are some beefy four-wheel-drives in the market, but today, none more so than the Nissan Patrol.  This ST-L model is our second look at the all-new Patrol – We’re taking it to all the extremes this week.

Standard Features: 298kW / 560Nm 5.6 litre V8, 7-speed auto, dial selectable multi terrain full time 4WD system, 8 seats, reversing camera, front & rear parking sensors, 2Gb 6-speaker sound system, 18inch wheels, tri-zone air conditioning and rear privacy glass.

Price: $82,200

Wow Factor: Bigger in all dimensions than direct competitor Toyota Landcruiser. Brutal V8 power plant on which Supercar series Nissan Altima is based. Prestige interior with superb cabin isolation and quietness. Excellent ride with surprisingly adept handling manners.

Most Impressive: All conquering off-road ability. Staggering road presence that makes a Grand Cherokee or Prado look like a Suzuki Vitara. Could tow a warship.

Not so impressive: Potential for obscene fuel economy. Expect 20 l/100km + when towing or off-road. Best EFTM could achieve was 14.8. Only runs on high-octane unleaded.  No satellite navigation, rain sensing wipers, dusk sensing headlamps or fog lights on base ST-L.
