The EFTM GARAGE – HOLDEN CAPTIVA 7

Just last week we put the Captiva 5 up against one of it’s rivals, so this week we’re behind the Holden sibling – the Captiva 7 LX Diesel – Have drive quality improvements made Holden’s offering any more attractive?

Holden Captiva 7

Make: Holden

Model: Captiva 7

Variant: LX AWD, 2.2L 4cyl Diesel, 6-speed automatic

Standard Features: 6 airbags and ESC, iPod Connectivity, 19 inch alloy wheels, satellite navigation, rear view camera, dusk sensing headlamps, auto dimming rear view mirror, front heated leather appointed seats, front & rear park assist, hill-start assist and a descent control system with AWD.

Price: $43,490

Wow Factor: 2.2L 4cyl Diesel 135kW / 400Nm is a must have option. Aside from decent fuel economy (we are averaging 8.1) it hauls the Captiva’s mass much better than other engine variants.

Most Impressive: Under the skin improvements prove effective. The new generation 6-speed auto shuffles through cogs largely unnoticed. Previously we described the auto as “tries hard but becomes easily confused and agitated when put under pressure”. Handling and ride is also greatly improved. Cosmetically the Captiva holds its own thanks to various face-lift’s over time.

Not so impressive: Ultimately the Captiva range is now very old, with its origins dating back to 2006. There are far more sophisticated and modern rivals out there.
