Logitech re-invents the in-car phone mount with Case+ Drive

You’d think there are some accessories that couldn’t be re-imagined, so when Logitech sent EFTM their new Case+ Drive it was hard not  to be impressed.  The concept is simple, the finished product is tiny – it’s a real winner.

Logitech Case+ Drive

The idea behind Case+ is a lot more than just the in-car mount we’ve been using.   Case+ is a relatively thin case for your iPhone 5 (or 5s) which at its heart has a large metal backing on it.  This metal backing is the key to the whole Case+ concept – magnets.

Case+ Drive is a $69.95 product which gives you the case for your iPhone as well as a suction mounting bracket for your car’s windscreen.  This tiny little cylinder shaped item has a flip open lid which once opened houses the twist turn suction action to secure the unit to the glass.  After that, the flip lid can be angled to suit the location of your phone.

Once you add the Case+ cover to your iPhone it simply snaps onto the Drive using the in-built magnets.

It’s a firm snap, meaning the phone is more than secure yet can be twisted portrait or landscape and perhaps the best outcome from the compact design of the “Drive” unit is that your phone sits in front of it and almost makes it look like it is floating on air – the Drive isn’t visible to the driver of the car. I reckon that’s important because most mounts you’ll find seem to take up a lot more space than just the phone itself.

On the negative side, the mount doesn’t extend out from the windscreen any more than a few centimetres, so if you’re used to a long movable arm to bring the phone closer to you while you drive the Case+ Drive might disappoint – however, you’re not meant to be using the phone while you drive you know?

Case+ Tilt

Once you join the Case+ club, there are a couple of other compelling products from Logitech.  The Case+ Tilt is a small foldable cover which gives you a stand to sit your phone on while watching videos.

Logitech Case+ Energy

Perhaps best of all is the Case+ Energy which is a thin snap on (magnetic) battery pack for your iPhone which plugs up into the lightning dock connector to give you a whole new battery level on the go.

The magnets make it easy to use, the quality is solid as expected from Logitech.  At $70 it’s a good deal given it’s a case and a car mount all on one purchase.
