Hey Australia – Fire up your PS3 and join the GT Academy!

If you love racing your virtual heart out around the racetracks of the world on your Playstation 3, there’s some great news for you today.  The Nissan GT Academy is coming to Australia and if you’ve got what it takes you could be off to Silverstone to represent Australia.

The concept is simple, race cars regularly and fast on Gran Tourismo 6 – available on PS3 – and you have a chance to be part of the ongoing leaderboard of lap times.  Fourteen of the fastest online players will be joined by fourteen players who are selected from the many who will race in the live events being held at V8 Supercar Championship across the year.

Those 28 will take place in a National Final which will be a series of Gran Tourismo 6 rounds, as well as driving skill challenges in an actual Nissan sports-car, a fitness challenge and a media test.  It’s a gruelling event.

The best of the best will be selected to head to Silverstone in then UK to represent Australia in the global challenge.  It’s one hell of an opportunity just by racing fast on your PS3!

You’ll have heard of the GT Academy’s inaugural winner, Lucas Ordonez  -he’s become the  “poster boy for ‘virtual to reality’ racing” and has competed in a range of championship series around the world.

So – time to get cracking.  I for one am going to dust off the Logitech G27 wheel and give it a crack.  The fitness challenge might be a bit beyond me though:)
