Rev-heads rejoice – a big weekend on the TV coming up : F1, V8 & Speedway Motorbikes

I don’t know what your excuse will be to your family for needing to sleep odd hours and not really wanting to chat much in the afternoons this weekend, but we’ve got some great motorsport action coming up across our TV screens from around the world with V8 Supercars in action, F1’s whistling around Bahrain and Speedway bikes in New Zealand.

Here’s your weekend schedule: (All times and channels from Sydney – check your local guides)

Saturday

  • 3.30pm – Seven – V8 Supercars – Winton
  • 3.30pm – SPEED TV (Foxtel) – FIM Speedway Grand Prix Preview Show
  • 4.00pm – SPEED TV (Foxtel) – FIM Speedway Grand Prix Round 1 LIVE

Sunday

  • 1.30am – ONE HD – Formula 1 Qualifying – Bahrain
  • 3.30pm – Seven – V8 Supercars – Winton

Monday

  • 12.15am – Ten – Formula 1 Grand Prix – Bahrain

There’s a stack of great racing there, and some great coverage too.  Call my biased because Greg Rust (One/Ten), David Tapp (Speed TV), and Jason Crump (Speed TV) are all mates of the EFTM team but this is a cracking great lineup of motorsport.

The FIM Speedway Grand prix season kicking off in New Zealand is another chance for an Aussie world championship to get underway – with Chris Holder doing his best to take a title back after his recent injury recovery, and Speed TV have done a great job getting Australia’s three-time speedway world champion Jason Crump involved in their coverage.

For those of you who haven’t had a look at Speedway bike racing it is insane stuff – four riders, a short dirt oval, 500cc engines and no brakes.

Here’s a clip of USA’s legendary double World-Champion Greg Hancock with a helmet-cam out on the Western Springs track in practice
