The perfect Coke glass – Riedel – taste it like you’ve never tasted Coke before

No point beating around the bush, I’ve consumed a lot of Coke.  I love it.  In any blind test I can pick “the real thing” from it’s spin-off siblings and competitors without fail, so when Coke suggested they could show me how to serve the perfect Coke – they had my interest.

So, how does the world’s biggest drink brand determine the perfect serve?  Easy – a “Sensory workshop”.  Bring together top flavour experts, sampling Coke from a variety of shaped glasses prototyped for the test.

Together they agreed unanimously on this glass:

That ladies and gentlemen is the COCA-COLA + RIEDEL GLASS. A box of two will set you back just under $50, these are the ultimate Coke glass after all – right? (And they are crystal too).

Now, you’re thinking – yeah right – what a gee up.  Nope.  Today, I did a quick taste test.  Drank from a small can, then drank from a standard quite large rimmed glass, then from the Riedel.    I have dysfunctional taste buds so can’t describe the citrus and other flavours that apparently will be clear – to me, it was about the carbonation – the bubbles.  From the can it was a mouthful of bubbles.  From the open glass the bubbles were kinda directed straight into my mouth, while from the Riedel I honestly thing the carbonation was dispersed and what that does it give you the sense of a carbonated drink while accentuating the flavour.

Another great gift idea for that someone who it’s just impossible to buy for.  If they love Coke, get them some Coke + Riedel glasses.

Oh, and for the record, at the launch event, we were challenged to use a mix of ingredients and flavours to create the perfect Coke – My entry: A straight coke from the can into the Riedel Glass – I mean really, why mess with the taste of a genuine Coke?

The COCA-COLA + RIEDEL GLASS is available for sale at a RRP of $39.95 for a single glass or $49.95 for two online,  and in-store at David Jones, Myer and all good homewares stores.
