A tough couple of days for Apple – lots of chatter online about the apparent issue of iPhone 6 Plus devices bending in the pockets of users, and today a problem with an update issued for iOS 8.
You’ve read my thoughts on the bending issue – take care, and treat your device carefully – for more of my thoughts on that, listen to the latest episode of Two Blokes Talking Tech.
This morning, an update for iOS 8 was issued. iOS 8.01 had some minor bug fixes – unfortunately after some people started installing it, it became very clear that it was creating more bugs than it was fixing. Your mobile phone could likely no longer make or take calls, and the finger print sensor (TouchID) was deactivated.
Apple quickly removed the update, and have today issued this statement:
We have a workaround for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus users who lost cellular service and Touch ID functionality today after updating to iOS 8.0.1. Affected users can reinstall iOS 8 through iTunes, for more information visit http://support.apple.com/kb/
HT6487 . We apologize for the great inconvenience experienced by users, and are working around the clock to prepare iOS 8.0.2 with a fix for the issue, and will release it as soon as it is ready in the next few days
You’ll need a slight level of extra care and attention because it’s not a common process for users, but if you don’t do that, you could be waiting a few days for an official update to iOS to fix it.
