Apple announces September 7 event – a new iPhone is coming

Apple’s website for their September 2016 “Event” has gone live confirming to the world the event will take place on September 7th at the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium in San Francisco.

Much attention always focusses on the event invitation itself and the speculation around what clues may exist within it, this one is no different.

The Website and invitation says simply “See you on the 7th” with the expectation being the 7 is a clear sign of an iPhone 7 announcement.

The next iPhone

You’d be mad to bet against a new iPhone being announced, with the annual release always at this time of the year.

The next iPhone will likely look very similar to the existing iPhone 6s, though smaller, with a much improved camera and the controversial removal of the headphone jack.

That last point will attract the most attention, with many not understanding just how that will work.  Bluetooth is a powerful thing, plus the included headphones will have lightning adaptors, as many third party headphones are already doing.

Apple Watch?

Look, some people are suspecting a new Watch, but frankly, the current one is pretty darn good, let down only by software – the new Watch OS version will be released in the next month, that’s the big update.

Don’t expect a new look Apple Watch

New iMac?

It’s long overdue, but at the same time, it still looks great and fresh – so what would you change?  Unless they have some radical new plan – I expect this to continue to get internal hardware updates throughout the year to keep it fresh and powerful.

MacBook Pro update?

Long overdue also, and the most likely device to be revealed if anything other than an iPhone is shown at the keynote event.

The next MacBook Pro should be thinner, have better battery, pack all the modern power, but also utilise things like the new MacBook keyboard and while there are rumours of an interactive touch-key bar above the keyboard, I think that’s a long shot.

In the end, we all have to wait and see, with a September 7 announcement for the iPhone (Early morning September 8 Sydney time) we might expect pre-orders to start on the 16th, with in store availability 23rd – but it’ all guess work:)
