Go Anywhere With New Fitbits

Fitbit, who are the BandAids of fitness trackers, are at it again. The team have announced two new products, both are second generation, replacing the Flex and Charge. Named the Flex 2 and Charge 2 it will be easy to spot them in stores. So what is new?

Fitbit Flex 2

The Flex 2 from Fitbit is a new wristband which is waterproof up to 50 metres. This means it is their first tracker suitable for swimming. It will measure your laps, pace and duration, something completely new. The Flex 2 is extremely simple too, the band itself is not a functional part of the product, it merely hold the tiny tracking device. What this means is that the bands are very interchangeable in the forms of more elegant 22 carat gold bands, necklace pendants and bands that will look better with a suit.

The Flex 2 will also be one of the cheapest known fitness trackers, this is partially due to the lack of “smart” features and heart rate monitoring. Those people should be looking at the Charge 2, and so…

Fitbit Charge 2

The Charge 2 is a completely different design to the previous model and one of the best features added is the simple ability to swap the bands on a more sophisticated fitness tracker. All the smarts and all the brains are in the centre, above the wrist, including heart rate monitoring. The bands clip onto the sides so you can have your rubber strap fitted for the gym and a leather band fitted for work. The choice becomes yours. The other new addition to the Charge 2 is a VO2 Max calculation. This score is based on details in your user profile, your heart rate and exercise. The VO2 Max score will help coach you towards your goals of weight loss or greater endurance etc.

While the Fitbit is often seen as something just for fitness, the Charge 2 also has a calming mode which can help guide you through some relaxation techniques through coached breathing exercises. Inhale… hold… exhale… Using your heart rate as a guide the Charge 2 will help settle you when you need it.

Availability

The Fitbit Flex 2 is available NOW for $149.95 in black, lavender, magenta or navy with more colours and stylish bands to be released shortly.

The Fitbit Charge 2 is available in October for $249.95 in black, blue, plum or teal with leather bands and other colours available soon after.
