After all the fuss and excitement of last night’s launch, we felt there was one question left to answer with the monthly fee being charged in US dollars.
Is Amazon paying GST?
As we know, the Federal Government recently introduced new legislation that imposes a GST on all purchases made overseas – an interesting burden for small and large companies in other territories.
So when Amazon announced US Dollar pricing, it seemed this was a way of operating from the US and avoiding local taxes.
Not so – EFTM posed the question to Amazon and their answer was clear:
Will Amazon be collecting GST from Australian users of its service?
We are registered for Goods and Services Tax and the price charged to Australian consumers is inclusive of Goods and Services Tax.
Pretty cut and dry really. So, there you go – no conspiracy, nothing to see here.
