Jack Brabham honoured with a commemorative 50c coin: Royal Australian Mint

Sir Jack Brabham was a pioneer in Australian Motorsport, and his legacy of three world championships let alone the being the only driver ever to win the World Championship in a car of his own construction will last forever.  The Royal Australian Mint have announced a commemorative coin in Jack’s honour that is on sale now.

The Coloured 50c uncirculated coin serves to pay tribute to his legacy of achievements and will be a collectors item among motorsport fans around the world and coin collectors alike.

Featuring the car which carried his name as both driver and constructor, the coin itself also features the green and gold colours of the original car.

Royal Australian Mint Chief Executive Officer Mr Ross MacDiarmid said of the launch “Sir Jack Brabham was not only a superb racing car driver but he was also an innovative engineer and pioneer, paving the way forward for motorsports,

“As we enter the 2017 Formula 1 season, this coin celebrates one of the world’s motor racing greats and his remarkable achievements, on and off the track.”

Sir Jack’s son David was delighted by the honour given to his father “To have our father recognised through a commemorative coin by an iconic national institution, the Royal Australian Mint, is really special and very important in carrying the Brabham legacy as my father’s achievements are likely to never be repeated with today’s technology replacing hands-on experience,”

Just 30,000 coins will be minted, and are available now from the Royal Australian Mint for $23.50 including receipted delivery.
