So scanners aren’t the sexiest bit of technology are they. Most of us have one, and don’t use it – in a multi-function printer, the flatbed scanner style. But what do you do if you’re a business which deals with a lot of paperwork and want to minimise that with efficient scanning? Check this out.
Epson has launched what it calls the “most intelligent business scanner yet” – called the WorkForce DS-780N.
It’s actually quite small, and for what it does, that itself is bloody impressive.
Up top is a 100-sheet document feeder, which passes pages through one by one at time scanning double sided in colour if you like.
Stats are 45 pages per minute at 300dpi. And I reckon that’s spot on. I had a 22 page bank statement, printed double sided, and I whacked it in the top. Check it out:
I was blown away. That’s the kind of speed you get on one of those big industrial office printers, but here it is in a small compact desktop unit.
I installed software on my Mac to control it, was able to set it to scan to a searchable PDF which meant those bank statements were a whole lot more useful than the paper version.
There’s a USB 3.0 slot for scanning to a drive, WiFi and ethernet connectivity. It’s controlled by a touch screen colour display on the front, I had it setup and running within minutes.
For the IT department there’s alerts for administrators when maintenance is required, and fleet management tools like usage.
Available now, this little beast will set your business back $1,299 – the perfect end of financial year purchase?
