Telstra offering more Data plus Foxtel Now ahead of iPhone launch

Telstra is getting ready for an imminent iPhone launch – the most competitive time of year for Telcos, with a whole new range of plans aimed at data hungry users and streamers – including new data allowances and Foxtel Now subscriptions.

The increased data allowances come as Telstra sees a 40% increase in the use of video on their network in the past twelve months, accounting for a staggering 38% of usage on the network.

And we’re streaming at lunch time as much as we are in the peak travel time.

“Customer demand for mobile data has grown nearly 50 per cent every year since 2014 as smartphones have become our most personal and important communication device,” said Michael Simpson, Executive Director, Telstra Mobile Products

The new data limits will slow any thought of customers switching telcos, with the Big T always holding some loyalty among its customers, and it’s not just data they are dangling as a carrot.

Twelve month Foxtel Now subscriptions will be offered to those on the highest plans ($99 and above) but be careful, that will Roll onto a paid subscription after 12 months unless you cancel.

And for prepaid users it’s just as innovative, with a new Data Bank” feature allowing you to bank unused data each month, to a total of 50GB – with no expiry, as long as you have an active account.  This differs greatly from the traditional month to month roll-over available in market.

It’s an aggressive move from Telstra, who while still not cheapest in market, seem to only need to continue to offer more to ensure they are keeping up with customer needs in an effort to retain customers.

Here’s a summary of all the new plans:
