Big Food Records to Celebrate World Food Day

On the 16th of October the world will celebrate food, and when it comes to days to celebrate, food is one of our favourites. The team from Guinness World Records have helped us compile this list of food records that will blow your mind, and maybe make you a little hungry.

Largest pizza commercially available

Los Angeles’ Big Mama’s and Papa’s holds the record for largest commercially available pizza, sizing up to a whopping 1m 37cm by 1m 37cm. The square pizza is said to feed between 50 and 100 people and costs approximately $199.99. Creating this masterpiece is such a task that Big Mama’s and Papa’s needs 24 hours’ notice to make it. Interestingly, it’s also really good value ($200 / 50 people = $4 per person). But who has 50 friends anyway…

Longest line of hamburgers

Not exactly something we can put on our bucket list of places to visit but this would have been a great sight to see. Carnicas Ortola S.L. from Spain on 25 September 2016, created the longest line of hamburgers measuring 475.10m in length. The hamburgers were made from beef patties with cheese and ketchup. Not a bad meal!

Largest doughnut mosaic

The fact that this even exists is crazy enough but the Lviv Pampykh Festival in Ukraine, took the appreciation of doughnuts to a whole new level by creating the largest doughnut mosaic on 7 January 2012. Using a total of 7,040 doughtnuts the attempt took place on Ukrainian Christmas day as part of their Pampukh Festival. After the attempt all doughnuts were distributed to the public who had gathered on Market Square where the mosaic was created. We love that this wasn’t food that went to waste, but we didn’t get one so…Oh and the other question is… where are the donut holes?

Largest chocolate sculpture

Here’s some people who love chocolate so much that they’ve built a structure out of it. Aficion Chocolate has one serious sweet tooth, successfully attempting the largest chocolate sculpture which weighed at 10,187 kilos created in Jiaxing, Zhejiang, China on 30 September 2015. The sculpture was in the shape of a building and measured 4.08 m x 2.39 m x 2.02 m.

Most expensive hot dog

No matter how many barbecues or American baseball games you go to, you sure haven’t come across a hot dog like this one. Tokyo Dog in Seattle, Washington USA created the most expensive hot dog with a retail price of $169US. Achieved on 23 February 2014, the foot long frank contains smoked cheese bratwurst, butter Teriyaki grilled onions, Maitake mushrooms, Wagyu beef, foie gras, shaved black truffles, caviar and Japanese mayonnaise, all served up in a brioche bun. We’d actually like to taste this, mainly to see if all these flavours work well together. Caviar and beef is a weird pairing isn’t it?
