Fitness First launches world’s first Apple Gymkit-enabled equipment in Sydney

Announced earlier this year, Apple’s Gymkit is an extension of the Apple Watch allowing users to get access to data from Gym training equipment to be included in their overall health statistics, and today, it launches Worldwide with some of the first equipment going into Fitness First in Australia.

Gymkit allows users to simply tape their Apple Watch on a piece of Gym equipment and pair them together so that data from treadmills, bikes, step machines or ellipticals can form part of their overall activity tracking.

You might get information like calories burned, distance, speed or incline from a stationary bit of Gym gear – data that is normally obtained by GPS and Watch data when out on the go.

There’s no extra app required, you simply pair the watch to the machine and start training.

“As an industry leader, Fitness First has always embraced and invested in the latest innovations in fitness to ensure we provide an enhanced member experience at our clubs,” said Chief Executive Officer of Fitness & Lifestyle Group, Greg Oliver.

“We’re constantly thinking of ways to give our members a premium fitness experience and value from their membership. Introducing Apple’s GymKit-enabled cardio equipment reflects our unwavering commitment to providing our members with the latest innovations, facilities and equipment in our Fitness First clubs,” said Greg.

Apple’s Jay Blahnik is excited about the possibilities for the technology “We wanted to simplify the cardio machine experience and make it more accurate than ever before. With a quick tap on your favourite cardio equipment, you’ll see for the first time, two-way data exchange in real time that will result in the most accurate measurements possible with less device management,”

The first Fitness First clubs to introduce the new equipment will be in Bond Street Sydney, then Bondi Juunction, Barangaroo and Richmond in Melbourne.
