Stream the Cricket this summer from 30,000 feet using Qantas WiFi

If you’re a cricket tragic and your work trip or family holiday clashes with the Ashes then worry no more, you’ll never miss a moment if you’re flying Qantas and happen to jag one of their 15 737’s equipped with in-flight WiFi Internet after a partnership with Cricket Australia was announced today.

Under the deal, 75 matches will be streamed live on the Qantas WiFi network, covering the Men’s and Women’s Ashes, One Day internationals, T20’s and both the Big Bash leagues.

It’s a battle for the skies as Qantas and Virgin roll out their in-flight Internet across their fleet with Qantas Chief Customer Officer, Olivia Wirth, saying Qantas is leading the way in Australia for inflight connectivity.  “Qantas is proud to support the men’s and women’s teams through our Cricket Australia partnership, and as part of that we’re able to offer more than 400 hours of live cricket over the season to around 60,000 customers inflight every week,” she said.

“Our goal is to give our customers the best inflight Wi-Fi experience in Australia. We’ve installed ViaSat’s next generation in-flight Wi-Fi service, which delivers speeds up to 10 times faster than conventional on-board Wi-Fi by tapping into the nbn satellite network.  We’ve partnered with the best in entertainment and we’re offering it for free.”

It’s just 15 planes now, with 80 to be done by the end of 2018 so a slow road ahead and a fair amount of luck required to snag a seat on one of those 15.

Additionally, alongside the live matches there will be a dedicated channel on the Qantas Inflight Entertainment with Cricket content such as Ashes Moments, great highlight reels and profiles of some great English cricketers too.
