Sonos One Receives the Alexa Treatment

In October 2017, the Sonos One was brought to Australian’s with the promise of later on becoming more than just the best speaker for your music but also capable of being used with a voice assistant (the Sonos One review here). Our American friends have been able to use the Sonos One with Amazon Alexa for some time and today Australian’s can install the software update that brings them this functionality also.

Running Amazon Alexa on the Sonos One you’ll be able to ask the usual questions, control all of your smart “things” eg Philips Hue, Lifx, Roomba etc but also have greater controls over your Sonos music experience.

Initially Alexa on Sonos will enable you to have full voice control Amazon Music, Spotify, iHeartRadio, and TuneIn, even though Sonos supports over 80 streaming services. All other services (including those mentioned earlier prior) will be able to use their Sonos One with Alexa to control volume, pause, skip track and even ask what song is playing. We’re looking forward to the full voice controls expanding to other music services, particularly Apple Music.

With this update now available we have to wonder… is this now officially the best value smart speaker for $299? The Sonos One is a Wi-Fi connected speaker which delivers clean sound, fits into the room it is in through tuning from TruePlay, works in a multi-room setup, as a stereo pair or even in a 5.1 array with the Playbar or Playbase and now uses the six microphones onboard to let your voice do the work. Sonos One owners, get updating and start talking to your speakers.
