Alfa Romeo Partners With Targa Florio – A nod to the Quadrifoglio badge

Alfa Romeo Australia is partnering with the Targa Florio Australian Tribute, as not only a tribute to the race but a nod to the birthplace of the brand’s famed Quadrifoglio badge.

The event includes three categories, classic cars from 1906 to 1976, Ferraris produced from 1977 plus supercars dated from 1990. This is only the 2nd time the event has been held outside of Italy. Victoria plays host to the event that traverses areas such as Gippsland, The Yarra Valley & Dandenong Ranges, Phillip Island, The Mornington Peninsula, Geelong and of course The Great Ocean Road. It will be held November 28 – 2nd December.

John Caniglia, Director of Targa Florio Australian Tribute said, “Alfa Romeo is one of the world’s most iconic brands that made the Targa Florio the finest expression of Italian motorsport. We are proud to partner with a brand synonymous with passion, emotion and an exhilarating driving experience.”

Alfa Romeo’s history with Targa Florio goes back to 1923, when driver Ugo Sivocci painted a “Quadrifoglio” on the front of his Alfa Romeo RL Targa Florio to try and help break his run of second place finishes.

Sivocci went on to win that year’s event. Of course, now 95 years later the name appears on the high-performance Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio and Stelvio Quadrifoglio SUV. The latter will make its debut at the event as the official pace car.

“We are proud of Alfa Romeo’s rich racing heritage and thrilled to celebrate its history with the Targa Florio in this year’s Australian Tribute, further strengthening the ties between the great Alfa Romeo vehicles of the past and those being built today,” Alfa Romeo Australia CEO Steve Zanlunghi said.

“The Targa Florio Australian Tribute provides the perfect backdrop to debut the all-new high performance Stelvio Quadrifoglio SUV which is on sale locally after much anticipation.”
