DJI launches the Osmo Pocket: Small hand-held stabilised camera

How good is your tech memory? Remember the FLIP cameras? A small device, pretty much just a screen, a camera lens and a record button? Fast forward eight years since the Flip was discontinued and we find it was well ahead of its time as DJI announced a new Osmo Pocket – hand-held camera with sensational capabilities.

Taking everything they know about cameras and stabilisation from their drones and their large form factor Osmo cameras, DJI have created something for everyone.

Just over 10cm tall the Osmo Pocket is the smallest three-axis camera DJI make.

And it’s no slouch – recording 12 Megapixel photos and 4K video up to 60 fps. There’s dual microphones with noise cancelling built in for high quality audio and a battery life of up to two hours when shooting 4K. Crazy good stuff.

Because it’s built around the DJI Gimbal tech, the video will be stable and smooth to watch.

“Innovation is at the heart of every product we create and DJI Osmo Pocket is here to change the way photos and videos are captured, not just by professionals but by parents, couples, adventurers, travelers, and everyone in between,” said Roger Luo, President at DJI. “Osmo Pocket is a portable personal camera crew and we can’t wait to see how people use it to capture their stories and share them with the world.”

Oh and you won’t miss a thing, there’s a 1 inch touch-screen built in so you can see what you’re shooting – or, attach your smartphone for greater controls.

At $599 it’s not cheap, but if the specs match up to the quality of the output, this is one hell of a pocket rocket.

The Osmo Pocket ships from December 15 – just in time for Christmas!
