L.A. Motor Show: The Audi e-tron GT!

The L.A. Motor Show rolls on and another showstopper has appeared. The Audi e-tron GT is the next electric Audi inline for production. This of course follows the announcement of the Audi e-tron SUV and Sportback set to launch in 2019.

The GT is currently a four-door coupe show-car, but is set to be a reality in around two years. Although the final design will no doubt differ to what is shown in the pictures.

Audi claim the GT e-tron will pack 434kW and send power to all four wheels via the quarto system. Much like a Tesla it will also have a flat-floor architecture to accommodate the battery between the two axels. This will ensure a low, flat wide stance.

The claimed range of the concept car is 400 kilometres thanks to a 90kWh lithium-ion battery. Charging can be done via the traditional plug-in method or a via contactless induction with Audi Wireless Charging. This involves parking over charging pad, best suited to overnight charging.

The 800-volt charging system when charged via cable takes just 20 minutes to recharge 80 per cent of the battery capacity. This translates to a range of about 320 kilometres.

The cost and Australian availability? Who knows!
