New Porsche 911 to Hit Australia in 2019

The 8thgeneration Porsche 911 has made its debut at the L.A. Auto Show. Featuring new looks, technology and driver assist programs. Aside from the nerdy stuff the traditional rear mounted flat-six turbocharged range of engines have been given a power boost and are now paired with a new, standard eight-speed transmission.

While clearly still sporting 911 DNA, attempts have been made to give it a more muscular look. The interior also sports a new look including 10.9-inch touchscreen. New technology includes Porsche Wet Mode, optional Night Vision Assist with a thermal imaging camera and increased smartphone connectivity. The Porsche Communications Management system (PCM) is more digitalised and includes online navigation and Porsche Connect Plus functions.

The Carrera S and 911 Carrera 4S now pump out 331kW, an increase of 22kW. If you’re wondering about the 0-100km/h sprint, well that now sits at 3.7 seconds. The Carrera 4S that includes all-wheel drive will pull it off in 3.6 seconds. There is an optional Sport Chrono Package that quickens things up by 0.2 seconds.

If you really want to stretch the legs on a racetrack tops speeds sit at 308km/h for the base Carrera and 306km/h for the 4s. Fuel economy is rated at 8.9L/100km and 9.0L/100km respectively.

The exterior is brand new, most obvious is the wider wheel arches filled by 20-inch or 21-inch wheels. The rear end is now uniformed in terms of width across all models. It also features a new horizontal light bar, much like those found on the Audi A8 and A7. Front on now looks far more dominating being 45mm wider. The door handles are recessed, Tesla style.

All sheet metal is now aluminium to lower weight. Some inspiration from 1970 911’s has been used in the interior. Alongside the rev counter that is usually centrally mounted there are two thin, frameless displays that give feedback to the driver.

The new 911 Carrera S will start from $265,000 while the 911 Carrera 4S kicks off from $281,100. The new 911’s should arrive in the second quarter of 2019
