Nissan Leaf NISMO Race Car Lights Up Tokyo

A new Nissan Leaf NISMO electric race car has been unveiled in Tokyo. Believe it or not this is now the 2nd Leaf NISMO RC, but this one has more than double the maximum power and torque of its predecessor.

As you’ll see in the following video it’s a pretty wild machine. The car will debut on December 2 at the NISMO Festival held annually at the Fuji International Speedway. Nissan’s new Formula E electric race car will also join the party.

The car barley resembles a Leaf with dual electric motors producing a combined 240kW/640Nm. Power is delivered via all-wheel drive and the body has been heavily restyled for the race track. However, the battery technology and some of the drivetrain is derived from the production Leaf.

Nissan’s global head of marketing for sales and electric vehicles Daniele Schillaci said, “The all-new LEAF NISMO RC shows how we’re setting our sights even higher when it comes to raw power and performance – making electric vehicles even more exciting for customers,”

“It’s our most thrilling expression yet of the philosophy of Nissan Intelligent Mobility.”

The Nissan Leaf NISMO RC weighs just 1,220kg and will sprint to 100km/h in 3.4 seconds. Check it out!
