Telstra launches Essential 8 inch Tablet by Alcatel

Telstra have released a new affordable tablet made by Alcatel running Android Oreo Go Edition.

The 8 inch “Essential Tab” is a good starter tablet that will perform most basic functions like web, social media etc.

It’s described as being a great option for BYOD school programs where kids bring their own Tablet to school – but you should check with your child’s school on the specifications and requirements before assuming this will fit the bill.

At $129, it’s hard to ague with the value here.  It’s got a 4G modem on board so a SIM card can be added for always on connectivity, and the near raw Google experience includes Google Lens AI technology.

The Essential Tab also features Family Mode, a “roped off” area dedicated to kids with popular games books and other activities.
