We Are Getting a Bigger Jeep – The Gladiator

Bugger needing a bigger boat, now it looks like we will get a bigger Jeep. The 2020 Jeep Gladiator has been unveiled at the L.A. Motor Show and it certainly looks like a brut of a thing.

The 2020 Jeep Gladiator will be available in three trim variants – Sport, Sport S, Overland and Rubicon. Based on the Wrangler the Gladiator is much larger. It can tow 3470kg, plough through around 760mm of water and comes equipped with Jeeps 4×4 systems and some more advanced features depending on model. The list includes Command-Trac and Rock-Trac 4×4, third-generation Dana 44 axles, Tru-Lock electric front- and rear-axle lockers, Trac-Lok limited-slip differential, segment-exclusive electronic sway-bar disconnect and massive 33-inch off-road tyres.

Like the Wrangler you can remove bits and pieces like the doors and windshield. Power comes via a 213kW 3.6-litre Pentastar V6 engine or 194kW 3.0-litre EcoDiesel V6 both paired to a standard six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic transmission.

The Fourth-generation Uconnect system comes with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto via a 7.0 or 8.4-inch touchscreen.

Tim Kuniskis from Jeep in North America said, “Unquestionably a truck and instantly recognisable as a Jeep, the all-new 2020 Gladiator is the ultimate vehicle for any outdoor adventure,” said “There is tremendous demand for this unique vehicle from our loyal Jeep customers and pickup truck buyers everywhere.

“Born from a rich and proud heritage of tough, dependable Jeep trucks, Gladiator combines rugged utility, versatility and functionality resulting in the most capable midsize truck ever.”

We will score the Gladiator at some point, but timing is yet to be confirmed.
