X018 Summary: The latest news from Xbox

This years Xbox One showcase is done and dusted and it was kind of cool! While there was nothing groundbreaking announced, there are a few notable mentions from the conference.

Microsoft have acquired development firms Obisidian Entertainment & inXile Entertainment

It’s always  great news when a huge publisher such as Microsoft picks up developers – it often gives them the ability to work on new and exciting projects without traditional budget requirements. Obsidian Entertainment is most known for their RPG games such as Fallout: New Vegas and the South Park game. While not huge titles, it’s still a nice get by the Microsoft team.

Fallout: New Vegas – very dated, very classic.

inXile are a slightly smaller firm that are known for titles such as Wasteland and The Bard’s Tale. The development house was founded by designer Brian Fargo quite some time ago now and similarly to Obsidian, this acquisition should prove beneficial to the gaming industry as a whole.

PUBG (Player Unknown BattleGrounds) is coming to Game Pass

In what is undoubtedly a push to fend off the giant that is Fortnite, the classic battle royale game PUBG will be making it’s way to the Xbox Game Pass in the very near future. It’s a brilliant game that spent way too much time in development, but has a very dedicated player base that will happily welcome new faces.

PUBG – Where pants are optional.

For those out of the loop, Game Pass is Xbox’s subscription service that gives you access to a large range of titles for a monthly fee – it’s the Netflix of the gaming industry.

Keyboard and mouse support is on the way

With the rise of highly competitive fast-paced shooters and other games that require reflex, console gamers are finally becoming aware of the significant restrictions that a controller has as opposed to the traditional keyboard and mouse.

There have been a whole lot of third-party accessories available for purchase that have made keyboard and mouse compatibility possible, but proper native support is an entirely different beast. Microsoft announced today that this will begin with Fortnite and Warframe.

Just Cause 4 is around the corner and you should be excited for it

Having been hands on with this game in the past couple of days I’ll be the first to tell you how brilliant it is. Truly, I had so much fun playing Just Cause 4 and you can expect a review here at EFTM very soon. It seems Microsoft are equally as keen, as they were today showing off the latest trailer for the title;

The game is incredibly cool and the developer Square Enix were able to demonstrate just why to the fans today at X018.

MISC

A few notable mentions include;

  • Sea of Thieves getting a new PvP mode.
  • Crackdown 3 introduces the “Wrecking Zone” multiplayer.
  • Forza Horizon 4 announces “Fortune Island” DLC.
  • Cats and Pandas are coming to Minecraft in the near future.
  • Winnie the Pooh will be in Kingdom Hearts 3.
  • New game “Void Bastards” announced.

And that’s a wrap for X018! Hopefully some of these announcements excited you, but in any case we’ll be sure to keep you updated with all the latest gaming news here at EFTM.
