Sennheiser CX Sport Review – Perfect for that morning run

Wireless headphones, earphones and earbuds (don’t ask me the difference) have gained some serious traction in recent years for their convenience and usability. One of the biggest markets for them have been fitness enthusiasts – gym goers, runners and cyclists. The Sennheiser CX Sport earbuds have been designed exclusively to deal with this target market, have a read;

The good

  • A solid six hours of battery life.
  • Sweat and splash resistance.
  • Lack of base – allowing for prolonged use.

The bad

  • Lack of base – leading to less enjoyable sound.

The verdict

“John you can’t list a lack of base as a pro and a con”- You, probably. But it wouldn’t be fair if I didn’t because it’s quite true, the lack of base is both a good thing and a bad, it depends what you value more – complete quality from your music or not getting headaches 30 minutes into a workout. For $179 the CX Sport earphones are definitely at the higher end of the market, but you’re getting quality for that price tag.

SOUND

With a product like the CX Sport, the sound they produce is really a matter of preference. While I can sit here and argue that a light, treble focused sound is the most effective for sport use – someone else could just as easily argue that the music simply doesn’t sound the same without a bit of base.

No matter your preference, the sound quality can’t be disputed. As I said, an absence of base is necessary in order to prolong each use. That’s because when you’re in the middle of an intense, blood pumping workout the last thing you need is heavy base pumping through your head. It’s a design choice that’s been made exclusively for the sport fanatic.

STYLE

Now the aesthetic of these things has to be considered because in about 95% of cases they’ll be seen by people around you and the last thing you want to do is look like a wanker. As you can see the bright yellow/green stands out quite a bit;

But much like every other aspect of these earbuds, it’s a matter of personal preference. They come with different size fits which makes getting comfortable a lot easier.

If you’re in the market for a solid pair of fitness earbuds, you can pick up the Sennheiser CX Sport at JB Hi-Fi for $179.
