In the market for an army tank?

If you’re in the market for a 1955 Centurion Mark 5 / 1 army tank, then read on. History and army buffs need look no further than an auction taking place on the 24thof July via Pickles.

But Pickles is also putting a call out to anyone that may be able to track down the origins of the decommissioned tank. Formerly owned by the Australian Defence Force it features a Rebuilt Rolls Royce Meteor V12 engine.

The tank was purchased from the Cowra War Museum in 2017. Since then the original owner has restored it.

Obviously, you’re going to need some space for a tank, which is why the vendor is selling up having sold his farm.

Brendan Shoemark, Branch Manager, Pickles Tamworth. “The history and origins of the tank are still a mystery,”

“We think the tank lived the majority of its life at a training base in Puckapunyal, an Australian Army facility 10km west of Seymour, in central Victoria, but we’re not 100 per cent sure.  When it comes to the rest of its history, it’s just a guessing game”.

“This is once in a lifetime opportunity to own piece of military history.  We’re urging anyone with any information and indeed interested buyers, to contact us on 0434 601 243.  We’re expecting the tank to reach in excess of $100,000.”

Interested buyers are encouraged to visit pickles.com.au.

Oh by the way, all firing capabilities have been disabled!
