Bowen made cyclists angry – update!

Recently I wrote a 428-word article about cyclists, you can read that here. But here’s the gist of what I said.

I don’t like the idea of cyclists using motorways, mainly because I think there’s a chance they may die. I used Sydney’s M7 as an example because despite the fact it has a dedicated cycleway running alongside it, cyclists still seem to want to use the 100km/h signposted motorway shoulder.

I also raised my concern about Sydney’s M2, especially given I regularly see cyclists stranded due to punctures. People in that predicament are around say two to three metres from cars and trucks on 100km/h motorway.

I was reasonably brutal with my language; I can certainly confirm they hate the term lycra. That’s homophobic apparently. But hey Aussies have always been great at a sledge right, Cricket anyone?

Now to this particular group of people who represent I’d say less than 1 per cent of cyclists, I’ll say this. I expected it, there’s absolutely no way you can shock me with threats, language or trolling. Trust me I’ve seen this kind of thing on a much grander scale than what you poor simpletons have tossed up.

But let’s look at some of the highlights;

Mat Bro

This shitshow is what happens when a couple of fat middle aged bogans decide to start a “media” page.

Michael G Jak

Lack of integrity, morally corrupt and disgrace to the concept of journalism

Peter Signorini

A mob of degenerate car-tools who promote bigotry and hate on our roads! Farkk-off haters.

Daniel Gabriel

Uneducated and bigoted views.

Thomas Peter

What a precious bunch. Othering has no place in a society. Your motoring editorials are base and the writer has some issues with rage. I hope his son grows up to be someone who contributes to society, not take after his fathers bigoted outlook on the world.

Peter Smith

Let’s hose the place down with testosterone. This is a misogynistic bigot echo chamber. Typical ignorant Dunning-Kruger effected boys who have yet to grow up. Recommendation – avoid.

Sonny Diamond

Half arsed, shock jock journalism simply seeking clicks for their own massive egos. Brings shame upon Australians.

Peter Turner

Driving a motor vehicle doesn’t make you a lounge lizard wanker that despises other road users, well not by default. However, for an outlet to publish such a wank of an anti-cycling story and then not allow healthy debate, instead to encourage hatred towards another road group. Well unfortunately you are guilty as charged. So, WTF is wrong with you?

Nicholas Bignell

The article by Chris Bowen was pure cyclist hating nonsense. Trying to propagate hatred towards cyclists, whose mode of transport is as legitimate as anyone else’s, is reprehensible.

Now look I could go on and on with these posts, but I’ve probably got enough people’s knickers in a knot by now.

But I will say this, I don’t really care if you ride a Penny-farthing naked across the Sydney Harbour Bridge. In fact, I may just buy a bike one day to relive that freedom and fun my Malvern Star gave me when I was 12. I’m just concerned that once I strap all that impressive gear on, I may turn into a ranting, raving, frothing lunatic.

So with that said I need to focus on some other content. In the EFTM Garage we have a Audi A4 TFSI quattro, Hyundai Kona Highlander Electric and Lexus LX 570 to review.

See you on the M2.
