D-Link introduces a smaller smart plug at a cracking price – $39.95

The most common thing we talk about when we talk “smart home” are things like Smart Lights – “Hey Google, turn on the lights” just seems so cool! Well the next best thing, in fact I’d argue a better place to start your smart home is a smart plug and D-Link may have just come out with the simplest easy solution.

The DSP-W118 MyDlink Mini WiFi Smart Plug turns any device that plugs into a wall into a smart device.

Is the Iron still on? Easy – use an app to turn it off?

Want your bedside lamp to be voice or app controlled – easy!

The Mini WiFi Smart plug is smaller than previous smart plugs from D-Link, and the important thing to know if you’re getting started in smart home or just adding this to your Bowen-like smart home – there’s no hub required.

The DSP-W118 connects to your existing WiFi network directly.

They say it’s slim enough to not obstruct other power outlets – we’ll test that when we get one in the office, and it works with both Google Assistant and Alexa – and if you’re savvy and want to create some cool routines with your smart things it’s also IFTTT compatible.

Save power by scheduling complete off times for devices, and monitor devices remotely via the app – it’s all good in this smart world.

Graeme Reardon from D-Link Australia says, “The mydlink app can control all our smart home products in the mydlink ecosystem and the new mydlink Mini Wi-Fi Smart Plug is an integrated part of making that ecosystem operate in a smart and seamless fashion. Put simply, the new smart plug combined with the mydlink app makes it easier for people to enable their smart home by adding clever automation and additional security.”

Cool stuff, available now at D-Link.
