Dick to show off new Pony at Bathurst

Ford fans can look forward to laying eyes on a special edition Mustang this weekend. I’ll be checking it out this Wednesday at a special event hosted by the Blue Oval in Sydney. However, motor racing legend Dick Johnson will drive it around the mountain during a three-car contest during the build-up to the 2019 Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 race.

Kay Hart, President and CEO, Ford Australia and New Zealand said, “We can’t wait for Mustang’s return to Bathurst in 2019, and what better way to celebrate than have a legend like Dick Johnson show off a pretty special new edition,”

Johnson, raced Mustang’s at the big race in and 1986, was the first to drive a Mustang Supercar at the Adelaide 500 back in February this year.

Johnson said, “Norm Beechey is one of my heroes and he drove a Mustang to its first ever win anywhere in the world on a racetrack right here in Australia in 1965,”

“Mustangs have a very special place in history both on and off the racetrack and to be able to drive this new special edition at Bathurst is a great honour for me. I’m looking forward to giving it plenty!”

“Bathurst is one of the best racetracks in the world. The Mustang will be right at home there both in Supercars race trim and in this special edition too.”

The Mustang Mountain Challenge will occur on Friday and Saturday, and broadcast during the Bathurst telecasts on Foxtel and Network 10
