Withings launches new hybrid smartwatch which can detect sleep apnea and arrhythmia (AFib)

At CES we see a lot of new gadgets announced, but the new ScanWatch from connected device maker Withings can actually be beneficial for your health, with a medical grade clectrocardiogram allowing detection of both sleep apnea and arrhythmia (AFib).

The inclusion of ECG in the watch makes this Withings most ambitious medical tracker says CEO, Mathieu Letombe. The watch has been purposely designed to detect the early presence of AFib and sleep apnea, which Mr Letombe said are ‘two related issues that are extremely common yet largely undiagnosed, despite their known impact on multiple health conditions’.

Worn throughout the day and night, ScanWatch provides an early warning system, collecting and sharing critical health data with users and their physicians.

While the ScanWatch is Withings most medically advanced wearable yet. The hybrid smartwatch combines the familiar elegant analogue look of Withings’ hybrid smartwatches with a large digital display.

The watch will come in two sizes – 38mm and 42mm – giving options to those who prefer something for smaller wrists, or something a little more chunky. The watch can also be paired with a range of bands in a range of colours in either soft silicon or leather.

The hybrid smartwatch offers up to 30 days of use on a single charge, and pairs with the Health Mate app for Android and iOS devices. The watch shows all the data on its digital display and fitness data can be synced with over 100 third-party apps including Apple Health, Google Fit, Strava, and
MyFitnessPal.

With the medical claims, the ScanWatch is awaiting medical clearance before launch in Australia and New Zealand in Q2 2020 starting at $479 AUD.
