Lenovo unveils new Legion gaming PCs and laptops

Lenovo has unveiled a new range of gaming and desktop PCs overnight, with a new range of Legion gaming laptops and desktops. The range also includes an Ideapad gaming laptop and IdeaCentre desktop and a new refresh on the Legion Y740Si.

Lenovo is using the latest 10^th Gen Intel Core H-Series mobile processors paired with the NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 SUPER GPU which Lenovo says will produce ‘higher check speeds and new levels of realism’.

The range includes Lenovo’s next-generation thermal solution Legion Coldfront 2, which uses their Dual Burn 2.0 tech to push the CPU and GPU to their limits without thermal throttling – end result, better gaming.

Lenovo will be using a 15.6-inch FHD (1920×1080) resolution display across the new range of laptops heading to Australia, though the Y740Si will get an impressive UHD (3840 x 2160) resolution bump. Lenovo will also be offering their Lenovo Legion Y25-25 Gaming Monitors with 240Hz refresh rate for the desktops, though timing and pricing hasn’t been announced.

Lenovo says their research from gamers points to the 1080p resolution being the best solution when taking into account power and performance. That aside, Lenovo WILL be offering UHD options for those who want them.

For the rest of the range there’s a number of new systems announced:

Laptops:

• The 15-inch Lenovo Legion 7i laptop is priced from $3,999AUD.
• The 15-inch Lenovo Legion 5Pi laptop is available for $2,999AUD.
• The Intel-based 15-inch Lenovo Legion 5i will start at $2,199AUD.
• The AMD-based 15-inch Lenovo Legion 5 will start at $1,999AUD.
• The 15-inch Lenovo IdeaPad Gaming 3i laptop will start at $1,849AUD.
• Lenovo Legion Y740Si laptop starts at $2,899AUD.

Desktops:

• The Lenovo Legion Tower 5i desktop will start at $2,499AUD.
• The IdeaCentre Gaming 5i desktop will start at $1,899AUD.

The Legion 7i includes options up to Intel Core i9 processors, with Core i5 and i7 options as well. The laptop will offer options for 8GB/16GB/32GB of RAM and 256GB/512GB/1TB of storage. The Legion 5P only has options for Intel Core i5 and i7 processors with similar RAM options to the 7i but has more versatile storage options offering up to 128GB/256GB/512 GB/1TB/2TB of on-board storage.

The Legion 5 has a 17-inch model overseas, but here it’s being offered in the 15.6-inch model only. The Legion 5 will come in AMD and Intel variants, with the Legion 5 AMD offering options for either the AMD Ryzen 7 4800H or Ryzen 5 4600H Mobile Processors, while the Legion 5i Intel model offers 10th Generation Intel Core i5 and i7 processors.

Lenovo is also bringing their IdeaPad Gaming 3i laptop for the entry level gamers, starting at that $1,849 price point which still includes the big 15.6-inch display, 10th Gen Intel processors, NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 graphics and options for 4-16 GB RAM with either 1TB SSD or 2TB SATA on-board storage options.

Lenovo is providing details on their Legion Y740Si laptop which was announced at CES earlier this year. The laptop itself is a powerhouse with the Intel 9th gen Core i5, i7 and i9 CPU options, but its true versatility is with the pairing with the Lenovo eGPU Station through Thunderbolt 3 cable offering desktop level graphics for ‘powerful gaming and content creation’.

The battery life for their range of laptops is impressive with Intel claiming up to 8 hours of battery life for gaming laptops – great for a full day of gaming, or business, with Lenovo noting that the design of the Legion products also takes into account people needing to use their laptop for work.

On the desktop side, Lenovo is offering two models, the Legion Tower 5i and IdeaCentre Gaming 5i.

The entry level for their new range is the IdeaCentre Gaming 5i which still includes Intel Core processors and up to NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 GPU, with options for AMD Ryzen processors coming later this year. In its current iteration the desktop includes options for 10th gen Intel Core i5 or i7 processors, 8 GB/16 GB RAM and 256GB/512GB/1TB M.2 PCIe SSD storage.

The Legion Tower 5i is definitely more premium, starting at $2,499 it offers options for 10th Gen Intel H-Series processors and up to NVIDIA RTX 2070 Super graphics. There will be AMD Ryzen processor options later in the year, but pricing hasn’t been announced.

The desktop case is engineered to ensure ease of use to components so you can slide devices in and out as required.

The PC includes an option for liquid-cooling, which you can show off thanks to an option for transparent side panels and internal RGB lighting which complements the cool blue LED lighting on-board.

Lenovo is intending to get their new Legion range of laptops and desktops into Australian stores around June this year.
